In case you are not familiar with Leonard Pitts, he is a sanctimonious (holier-than-thou) liberal columnist who is constantly belittling President Trump and his supporters and other conservatives. He is also fond of quoting Jesus to support his positions. Well, I had had all I could take of his cherry-picking of Jesus' words. So, I wrote him the following letter a couple of weeks ago to give him a little taste of his own medicine. Just as I thought, he didn't have the guts to respond. Anyway, here it is:
Dear Mr. Pitts, Since you seem to be fond of quoting Jesus from the book of Matthew, why don't you try a couple more. In Matthew 7:1, Jesus says, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Pardon me if I'm wrong, but you seem to be awfully judgmental of President Trump, his supporters, bigots, anti-Semites, liars, homophobes, sexual predators, hypocrites, adulterers, child molesters, and the like. Also, in Matthew 6:15, Jesus says, "But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father (God) will not forgive your sins." Have you forgiven all of those slave owners who may have abused some of your ancestors? Have you forgiven all of those KKK members and other racists who fought against civil rights for African Americans? Have you forgiven those people who lynched people of your race over the years? Only you know the answer to those questions. But, in those two verses, Jesus did not leave us any wiggle room. He provided no ifs, buts, or other conditions or exceptions. His judging of certain people is no excuse for us to judge the same. He is sinless - we are not. Therefore, we must not judge anyone, and we must forgive everyone, no matter how heinous of an act they may have committed. We have no choice. Period. Full stop.
Regards,
Terry Mitchell
