Colorado Christian University recently fired a female employee for what the university officially says was poor job performance. However, based on the woman’s claims and the evidence to back them up, it is more than likely that she lost her job because she is living with her boyfriend. She is now suing the university over her firing, claiming that it had no right to fire her, and that this amounted to an invasion of privacy.
But it is my opinion that the school was justified in firing her for living in sin with a man she is not married to. Her lawyer says that “everybody” is doing it nowadays, but that doesn’t make it right. She wasn’t working for just any institution of higher education, it was a Christian university. As such, it has every right to hold to hold its employees to a higher standard of moral turpitude – one that is in keeping with Christian, not worldly, values.
If this woman wants to live in sin with her boyfriend, that’s their personal choice. No one’s going to try to stop them. It’s a free country. But at the same time, she shouldn’t expect a Christian institution to tolerate such a lifestyle. If this woman wants to work for a college or university, there are plenty of secular ones to choose from, including all of those supported by the state.
Colorado Christian University set a great example for all other Christian colleges and universities in this country. More of them should do what CCU did. They need to stand in solidarity with CCU, by demonstrating that they are not tainted by political correctness and the sinful ways of this modern world.
