Would you rather have me put my writing talents to work creating original material like writing a short, regular columns? Most columns average, especially those that run in newspapers, range anywhere from 600 to 900 words in length. I could do a shorter one--of about 400-500 words--which could run once a week.
In this day and age of blogs and information overload, some readers might be more inclined to read shorter columns. Most people don't have time to read long, rambling columns. I pride myself on serving up my articles like blog posts -- in small, bite-size portions. I have a cut-to-the-chase writing style that gets straight to the point without the use of boring and unnecessary lead-ins.
I can do a column on any of the themes below:
1) "Pot Shots at the Conventional Foolishness" (social commentary and opinions on current events from a Christian libertarian point of view). Two alternative names for this column could be "Uppity White Boy Getting Mouthy" and "Slaughtering Sacred Cows."
2) "The Unapologetic Capitalist" (the name says it all).
3) Unbiased political analysis from an true outsider's perspective.
4) Personal finance.
5) Sports.
6) "Quickie Collections" (see the "Random Rants and Raves", "Random Rants", and "Classic Rants and Raves" series' under the 'Miscellaneous' category). An example of a 'Quickie' would be:
"When I was coming home from church a few weeks ago, I noticed that my pants felt a little looser in the waist. I thought that perhaps I was losing some weight. When I got home, I discovered that a button had come loose and fallen off the waist band. So much for my weight-loss fantasy!"
7) Religious issues.
8) Trivia.
9) Technology.
10) Media/entertainment issues.
11) Humor.
So, what are my writing credentials? Well, first let me say that, when I was in school, I hated writing. That sentiment continued into my adulthood. However, in 1999, my supervisor at the time told me that she was really impressed with the way I wrote emails and other technical communication. She even started having me review her emails for grammar and content before she would send them out.
I didn't actually get bitten by the writing bug until 2001, when I started posting my opinions on Internet forums. In 2004, I created my own website to showcase the articles that I was beginning to write.
In 2005, I followed that up by starting this blog that I have posted to almost every day since. Here, I write about various subjects such as personal finance, current events, politics, cultural and social issues, health and well-being, personal finance, religion, technology, media issues, law, government, sports, humor, and trivia.
This blog is syndicated by BlogBurst and Newstex. Through the BlogBurst network, my blog entries are often carried on the websites of some of the top newspapers in America, like the Houston Chronicle, the Chicago Sun-Times, and USA Today. Newstex provides my blog posts to its paying customers which include LexisNexis, CanWest, Newsbank, and Amazon.com. LexisNexis then provides my posts to, among others, the libraries of some of the most prestigious universities in the world. Amazon.com offers monthly subscriptions to my blog via its Kindle device. You can view its Kindle store and subscribe by clicking on the "Read my blog on Kindle" banner in the left margin.
I also regularly write for SearchWarp.com, where I am now in its hall of fame (top 100 writers); EzineArticles.com, where I have achieved Expert Author status; and Helium.com, where I rose to the rank of Four-Star writer within three weeks of joining.
In addition, my I regularly write for American Chronicle's network of 21 online magazines. I am also a writer for etalkinghead.com and my work has appeared on hundreds of additional Web sites.
