I know a lot of people who basically live out in the woods and love it. But I would never want to live out in the boondocks myself. There are several reasons why the wilderness would not be a place where I would want to make my home. First, if I ever had a medical emergency at home, I would be a long distance away from any EMTs or a hospital. I would likely die before anyone could get to me and transport me to a hospital. Second, in a widespread power outage, those who live the farthest away from others are almost always the last to get their power turned back on. I can’t go without the convenience of electricity for very long. Third, I probably couldn’t get my trash picked up out there. Hauling my trash to the dump would be too bothersome for me. Fourth, I would probably have to use a well and a septic tank. I prefer the convenience of city water and sewage services. Fifth and finally, you can’t get fast internet service in isolated places. The only internet service that is available is satellite internet, and it notoriously slow. I have grown accustomed to fast internet and would be unwilling to do without it again.
