Eric Trump, son of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, recently stated in a radio interview that David Duke deserves a bullet to the head. I find that statement completely outrageous. But equally outrageous was the fact that neither the radio interviewer nor any person in the media even batted an eye at it. They acted as if it was a given that Mr. Duke deserves a bullet to the head. Why? Because he holds the “wrong” views? I know Duke is a white supremacist who has done and said some of the most disgusting things during his lifetime, but does he deserve the death penalty for them? If so, where do we draw the line? Does every wingnut out there deserve to die, or is it just those on the right? What if Trump had said someone like George Soros, because of his extreme leftwing stances, deserves a bullet to the head? Do you think we would have seen some media outrage? You betcha. I would call it selective media outrage. In this day and age, you dare not wish violence or death on anyone for any reason – unless, of course, that person is deemed guilty of one of the “unpardonable sins” of bigotry or misogyny.
