We all have to accept the fact that life isn’t fair. While I have indeed come to accept that cruel fact, I still like to vent various grievances once in a while. One of those is the rewarding of people for circumstances that they had nothing to do with.
For example, people are often rewarded for having the freedom and time to do things that others would be willing do as well, but aren’t as fortunate as they. Among other things, they can accumulate brownie points with the boss by working overtime and/or participating in extracurricular activities, whereas many people cannot do this because of circumstances beyond their control, such as a family member who needs constant care.
It is frustrating to watch others have praise heaped them and get promotion after promotion, when you know you are just as smart and hardworking as they are. But, then again, we are actually luckier than they in one way. We’ll never regret the time we spent caring for our relative(s), while those who have the time and freedom to do what they want might one day wish they had spent more time with their loved ones. All the status in the world will be no consolation then.
