The recent suicide of a once-popular female country music star is just the latest example of the futility of spending time and money on self-destructive individuals. Many resources had been spent so this woman could attend rehab and utilize other public services in an effort to save her from herself. But, alas, it was all for naught.
Even fame and fortune could not save her from her substance abuse and other self-destructive behavior. Actually, as has been the case with so many who have ascended into the limelight quickly, it seemed to exacerbate her problems. Some of those who are able to acquire what that rest of us can only dream about are inexplicably willing to throw it all away for booze, drug, and reckless living.
All of this goes to show us that you can take the guy or girl out of the trailer park but you can’t take the trailer park out of the guy or girl. Some people just destined for self destruction, no matter how favorable their circumstance might become. This may sound cruel, but we should stop wasting time, money, and other resources on those self-destructive individuals who have no desire to help themselves.
