Apparently, accidents don’t happen anymore. They are a thing of the past, like 8-track tapes, monochrome computers, and Beta discs. Nowadays, anytime something we formerly referred to as an “accident” happens, an investigation begins almost immediately to discover who was at fault. No one considers the fact that accidents are going to happen once in a while, no matter what you do and or what kinds of precautions you take. We are all just as human as we ever were.
But the mentality now is that someone has to be held accountable. Someone has to be punished. Heads have to roll. We have to have to satisfy our bloodlust for a pound of flesh after every accident. Don’t we ever consider the possibility the results of the accident itself could be punishment enough for the poor guy or gal who momentarily let down their guard? Have we allowed the all those personal injury lawyer commercials to rot our brains?
If you have never been careless and have never had, created, or been at fault for an accident, congratulations! We’ll let you cast the first stone at the next person who is found guilty of such a thing.
