During a debate I was watching the other night on the subject of the Obama Administration’s decision to force religious-based employers to cover the cost of contraceptives for their employees, a woman arguing in favor of it made a strange statement. She said that religious freedom must be weighed against a woman’s right to birth control.
Constitutionally, that makes no sense, as there is nothing to weigh. While the Constitution guarantees the right to religious freedom, there is no constitutional “right” to contraceptives. The latter is just one of the so-called rights that have been invented over the years by liberals, as they have moved our nation further and further and away from its core constitutional principles.
For those who still don’t understand, here’s a brief refresher course in the U. S. Constitution. While the Declaration of Independence mentions the right to the “pursuit of happiness”, neither it nor the Constitution guarantees happiness to anyone. For example, if contraceptives make you happy, then go buy yourself some. Knock yourself out. The government will not stop you, nor does it have a right to.
However, you do not have a right to demand that the government buy them for you or bully someone else into buying them for you. If you can’t afford them and do not want to produce children, then I suggest that you either try some of the more old-fashioned methods of birth control (ask your grandmother for details) or simply abstain from having sex.
