I’m proud of the fact that I’ve never been a ‘stuff’ person, i.e., I’ve never been one to collect a lot of stuff. Perhaps it’s because I grew up in a poor family that couldn’t afford to give me a lot of things and, therefore, I never grew accustomed to (or comfortable with) having a lot of these things. I could have a lot of stuff now, but I have no desire for it. I don’t see things as adding to one’s quality of life. In fact, believe just the opposite is true, as the more one has, the more one has to worry about.
Besides, not buying so much stuff frees up my money for what I really want out of life – the ability to opt out of many unpleasant chores/tasks and the luxury of saying “I don’t care” and really meaning it. Not purchasing so many things allows me to spend more money on hiring others to do things I don’t want to be bothered with. It also allows me to have enough money in my checking and saving accounts to avoid having to micro-manage my budget or worry about the possibility of being out of work for a few months or even a few years.
