I resent the fact that the government performs such endeavors as redistribution of wealth. That is not the government’s job. It should be left to individuals to share their wealth or anything else they wish to share. I know there are many others who hold similar views on this issue. However, I’ve never heard anyone else point out the real problem with government redistribution of resources.
That problem is that it is inherently an arbitrary process. Let’s say I have lots of item A, but little or none of item B. Conversely, let’s suppose that my neighbor has lots of item B, but little or none of item A. Why should the government force me to share some of my item A with my neighbor, but not require him to share some of his item B with me? But that’s exactly how government-forced redistribution often works and it’s not fair.
Someone might argue that perhaps item A is a necessity of life, whereas item B is not. Still, though, if one is going to be a beneficiary of government confiscation of the assets of others, then that person should to be required to share whatever resources he or she has in abundance, whatever they may be. Almost everyone has something that can be shared, whether a material item, a talent, or even their time.
